At the risk of becoming that girl on tumblr who just talks about Muslim superheroes, I thought I’d talk about this week’s Aquaman #7. It introduced a new character, Kahina the Seer, who is Iranian. There’s a lot about her that I liked, even from previews and character designs, so I was excited to pick up this issue. And then… I wasn’t.

One of the most interesting things about reading dated comics is seeing how those original storylines—told in broad strokes with pretty basic characterization and plotting—evolve over the years as they are retold and adapted. One storyline that pretty much exemplifies this is the introduction of Hawkeye, and his subsequent partnership and entanglement with the Black Widow over the course of about three issues in the first run of Tales of Suspense (namely, issues 57, 60, and 64).
